Breaking a 21-day juice fast, how careful do I need to be?

Hey everyone, I’m finishing my 21-day juice fast tomorrow and had my first solid meal all planned out. I was looking forward to a brisket burrito, but I’ve just learned that jumping straight into heavy food might not be the best idea.

I’ve read that I should ease in with bone broth, soft fruits, and steamed veggies for a couple of days before adding back my regular diet.

If I ate some veggie soup or even chips and salsa, would I regret it? I normally have a strong stomach, but I don’t want to mess this up. Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Start with watery fruits in small amounts and chew well. After that, move on to fresh salads before adding anything cooked. Then try soups, still chewing well, before introducing heavier solid foods. If you go too fast, you might experience bloating or constipation. Just take it slow for a day or two, and you should be fine.

Soup should be fine, but I wouldn’t go straight for chips and salsa.

Thanks! Would it help if I blended the soup? Or is the issue mainly just reintroducing fiber?

Blending wouldn’t hurt, but it’s probably not necessary. Just go slow and see how your body reacts.

@Joss
Got it, thanks!

I did the Master Cleanse years ago and didn’t ease back into solid food like I should have. I regretted it.

I did a 7-day juice fast, then went straight to an Indian restaurant with a bottle of wine. My stomach definitely let me know I made a mistake.

I broke a 5-day juice fast today with champagne and pizza. Ended up throwing up. Maybe go as light as possible!

Avoid jumping straight into heavy or greasy foods. Your digestive system needs time to adjust. Start with bone broth, soup, soft veggies, and fruits on the first day, then slowly reintroduce proteins and other solid foods.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I don’t want to take it slow, but I believe you. I’ll start with bone broth, blended veggies, and soft fruit for a couple of days. By day three, I’ll add small amounts of well-chewed meat, and by day four, I’ll start reintroducing carbs. That’s the plan, but I’ll adjust based on how I feel.
