If you’re in love with the cabinets, I’d make one of the shelves open or replace the glass front.
@Salish Yes, it would be great to have some glass doors in the middle of that cabinet wall and to lower the pulls so that one could reach them without using a step stool.
I’m not sure why you believe that big fridge needs to be torn apart. If you don’t need the counter area, have you thought about building a tower of cabinets on the right end? If not, simply place a few cookbooks, a lovely cutting board, a plant, and a lamp in front of the backsplash.
Another recommendation is to swap out the bottom cabinets for drawers. Much more useful.
