I hate sponges so much

I used one in the kitchen 30 minutes ago, and my hands still reek. My family says they don’t notice the smell, but it’s unbearable to me. Microwaving it only spreads dampness. I avoid using it, but sometimes I have no choice. My hands still stink.

Like you, I detest sponges and have switched to dishtowels. Before putting it in the laundry to be washed at the end of the week with the dish towels (typically two per day), hang one per day to allow it to dry.

It can be washed with the dishes in the dishwasher at night in the utensil caddy. Far simpler and cleaner than using a microwave. If the smell is overpowering, discard them.

Sponge replacement is necessary on sometimes, which is why multipacks are available.

You can experiment with different kinds of sponges (natural sponges smell the least to me, but I believe the ocello wiggly ones smell less generally), replace it more regularly, put on dish gloves, or even better, just get a handled dish brush. I’ve nearly completely stopped using my sponge ever since I purchased a handled brush.

When I clean my sink with a sponge and comet or something similar, the odor is typically eliminated in between loads of laundry. To ensure they dry quickly, always rinse and squeeze dry. These days, I use the Swedish style garments far more frequently and throw them in the dishwasher. However, because they dry so quickly, they never smell.

Pour the extra hot water from the tea over your sponges. That gets rid of the bacteria and oil.

I adore my silicone ones, which come with tiny scrubbers. They’re adorable (I have one that’s a rubber duckie!) and can be boiled clean. and they endure for a very long period.
