Is it hard to install a farmhouse sink without removing the whole countertop? 🧐 If so, should I hire a general contractor?

I really want the farmhouse porcelain apron sink, but I really adore this kitchen’s counter and everything about it. Could someone drill a larger hole so that a porcelain apron sink could be installed? OR doing so would need me to completely redo the entire kitchen?

The countertop will need to be redesigned. Since most farmhouse sinks are undermount, the cabinet must be adjusted, the opening must be carefully cut and completed, and the sink must slip in beneath the counter.

Regardless of perspective, it won’t be cheap or simple.

No, there’s no need to remove the countertop. To accommodate the farmhouse sink, you will need to make some cuts in the countertop.

@Hudson For that job, should I employ a general contractor?

@Dacosta I do plumbing and I wouldn’t feel comfortable cutting in to a nice slab like that. I’ve done it when I need to make the opening bigger for a top mount sink that won’t show.

If a plumber can handle your faucet and drains and a carpenter/installer can do that finish, don’t hire him for the entire job.

@Dacosta Yes, but it does demonstrate that it is possible. All you need to do now is locate the correct person, who I believe is a general contractor or a counter top contractor in addition to a plumber.

While we were examining it, we upgraded everything. I am aware that they custom-manufacture each sink.
