I was just considering the lights above the dining table.
In order to create a lovely mood lighting in that location, would you suggest using pendant lights above the ceiling? It will be difficult because of the sky light.
Will lamps be fine or will they generate funny shadows when eatin
Do you have plans to install a skylight right above the location of the dining table? If so, pendant lighting is not the only creative choice available to you. By lamps, I’m not sure what you mean. Are you referring to table lamps or wall lights? A dimmer switch ought to be used for any overhead lighting. A diagram of the area showing the locations of the skylights might help you get better, more thorough suggestions.
To prevent strange reflections or light disturbances, you’ll need to be cautious while aligning the lights with the skylights. Perhaps wall lights would be a better choice. Where would the lighting be placed? Shadows could also be cast by those. Do you have a schematic of the room and an idea of what you were thinking?
I appreciate you sharing your project with us! Would you kindly be able to share any pictures or the space’s floor plan? Alternatively, could you please let us know the approximate location of the dining table with respect to the skylights?
@Keller Hi, this is the floor layout.
With the suggested placement of the table and skylights… Imagining a pendant hanging above the table on either side of the skylight. What do you think?
@Hudson I appreciate your suggestions. Would a bar’s track lights or spotlights still provide the lovely mood lighting? The ceiling is really high (perhaps too high!) and I’m scared they will still feel like overhead lighting
That sounds like a great plan with the pendants over your dining table! How long is your table? While it might not be the most efficient setup, sometimes a single larger light can make a bigger impact—though it really depends on the style of pendants you choose. I’d suggest avoiding anything too big. Some designer Scandi options, like the Secto range, come in various sizes that might work. Another interesting source for stylish, pedigree lighting is Tom Raffield.
There are a few techniques to make sure that track lights feel more like overhead lighting rather than more of a mood lighting effect.
Using warm white (3000 kelvin) lightbulbs is one method to achieve a more ambient lighting appearance. Another method to guarantee that the illumination is the desired brightness is to use bulbs that are compatible with dimmer switches and to wire the lights to one.
A slightly more sophisticated third option are pendant light track adapters. With the adapter, you can really hang a pendant light from this and move it to any desired location on the track. This allows you to install the track fixture without the spotlights.
