Looking for juice recipes that can help improve health and are suitable for someone with diabetes. Any recommendations?
There’s a YouTube channel called Diabeast that has a lot of tips about juicing for diabetes. They also have an ebook with good recipes. I’m not diabetic, but I’ve been using their green juice recipe to help with sugar cravings, and it’s become a staple for me.
A great juice for diabetes is a mix of green veggies like spinach, kale, and cucumber with some lemon and ginger. It’s low in sugar but packed with nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins. It can help regulate blood sugar without causing spikes. Still, it’s best to check with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Stick to green juices that are low in sugar. Use more mild greens like cucumber and celery compared to bitter greens, and add lemon or ginger for flavor. If you want a touch of sweetness, try adding small amounts of carrot, jicama, or beet.
Test your blood sugar after drinking juice to see if it causes spikes. If it does, consider drinking juice after a small meal with protein and fat, which can help moderate sugar absorption. While it’s ideal to juice on an empty stomach for nutrient absorption, avoiding sugar spikes is more important for managing diabetes.
My husband is diabetic, and I usually make lower-sugar juices so he can enjoy them too. He hasn’t seen major spikes, but he usually drinks no more than one cup at a time.
These are all good suggestions, but I recommend discussing any juice recipes with your endocrinologist to make sure they fit your health needs. Keep juicing!
Here’s a recipe I make for my husband, who’s pre-diabetic:
- Chlorella
- Parsley
- Cucumber
- Apple
- Ginger
- Soy milk and filtered water
I also add cayenne pepper, turmeric, and black pepper. It helps curb his sweet cravings and keeps him feeling great.
